Barry was born during World War II in ward three of the Erinville Maternity Hospital in Cork City on the banks of the river Lee in Ireland. His family roots are in West Cork and he is related to Michael Collins one of the founders of the Irish Free State. He comes from a long line of variety performers stretching all the way back, it is said, to the founder of the famous Collins Music Hall at the Angel in the heart of the City of London in the late 1880's

Like many comics he started by entertaining his classmates and even sometimes his teachers. He started learning his trade professionally as a Redcoat at Butlins which were a chain of holiday camps dotted around Ireland and the UK. Redcoats organised everything from the knobby knees competition to the weekly variety show.

It was here that he met many of his contemporaries who are now famous names in the World of Entertainment both in the UK and in the USA.

The age of the Irish Showbands peaked in the 60's and 70's and dance bands at the Ballrooms of Romance became stage shows in their own right. Barry spent most of the period playing support and host to most of the big names of that era. Names such as Big Tom, Larry Cunningham and Susan McCann and to big American stars  touring in Ireland and the UK.

Barry moved to London in the late 60's as this was where the work was located and he started promoting and hosting shows with an Irish flavour. Many will remember the Galtymore Club in Cricklewood, London NW2 where he hosted many a great Irish night

Barry met up with Michael Funge in the early 80's and they started a partnership which has endured to this very day. Michael is a top class musician and singer as well as a comic and has played all the great arenas in the world from The Royal Albert Hall In London to Sydney opera House and Carnegie Hall. When on tour with the Irish Variety Show he is the Musical director responsible for all the music content and all the arrangements
